Why Imajing prefers Teledyne’s spherical imaging cameras for its 360° mobile mapping

Imajing® selected Teledyne’s Ladybug® global shutter panoramic camera series as their top choice for capturing highly accurate images on a moving platform, optimal for their mobile mapping systems and software toolchain.

It (Ladybug series) is the market standard. Its rugged build aligns with our need for reliability in the field, and the integration matched perfectly with our mobile mapping system.”

The Imajing Toolchain chart illustrates the integrated workflow for mobile mapping, data processing, and geospatial analysis.

Introduction

Founded in 2008 by Etienne Lamort de Gail in Toulouse, France, Imajing develops mobile mapping solutions for geospatial data production, automatic image analysis and digital twin workflows. The company develops mobile mapping systems based on field level imagery acquisition, along with advanced software for mapping, inventory and monitoring of linear transportation network infrastructures.

In 2016, the company expanded internationally, by acquiring a Romanian software partner managed by Bogdan Negru. Together they launched Imajnet®, a cloud platform offering centralized access to geo-referenced imagery and GIS data.

Using AI, the Imajnet platform can analyze mobile mapping data to identify and classify features like road markings, pavement distress, street signs or urban furniture.  The mobile mapping data can be analyzed interactively through the immersive tools offered by the platform or exported to standard GIS formats. The advanced AI capabilities of Imajnet® provide support for industrial vertical applications which require recurring change detection or pavement surface analysis capabilities to plan, prioritize or monitor field assets.

Who Uses Imajing Solutions

Imajing serves a diverse customer base, from Small-Medium Enterprises (SME) and local professional services companies to larger engineering firms. End-users include municipal, regional or national road infrastructure management organizations, motorway management companies, and nationwide infrastructure networks such as national railways or national roads.

Today, Imajing exports its solutions to 40 countries, with notable clients such as:

The Challenge

Imajing needed to design Mobile Mapping Systems (MMS) that could perform under tough outdoor conditions and maintain centimeter level accuracy at high speeds. Their systems do not rely on LiDAR, rather they use imagery including 3D georeferencing and reconstruction, which requires high-resolution cameras and robust hardware that perform effectively under harsh outdoor conditions while moving at high speeds.

Solution

“Projects are carried out on roads, railways, or bike paths, ranging from inventorying equipment to analyzing road defects. Imajing’s strength lies in its complete toolchain from acquisition to data sharing. It’s flexible, fast to deploy, and delivers actionable insights.”

— Carl Deroanne, CEO, DrivenBy

Each Imajbox 360 is handcrafted in Europe and built around a ruggedized solid-cast housing with an ultra-fast locking system mechanism. Combined with Ladybug6 spherical cameras these systems are compact and optimized for large-scale geo-referenced image collection.

ANT Conseil, a telecom infrastructure consultancy, utilizes Imajing’s systems to identify fiber optics on utility poles, delivering GIS-ready data layers with minimal disruption to field operations.

“What struck me the most was, how it introduced almost no restrictions in the vehicle's circulation. The only limit we must respect, is the maximum speed allowed on the road.”

— Baptiste Essevaz-Roulet, Consulting Director at ANT Conseil
